SASI's mission is to support the efforts of older adults to remain in their homes: we make living easier. Our philosophy of care--that all adults deserve respect, regardless of age or physical limitations--is instilled in our home care aides through a comprehensive job training program. The mission of Senior Connections, a program of SASI, is to recruit, train and support volunteers who visit and befriend isolated older adults in the Evanston community. These friendships allow seniors to continue their participation in the community and to access additional support and services when needed. Senior Connections serves as 'the eyes and ears' of the community and helps to maintain the quality of life for seniors. Our unofficial motto is, 'Enhancing the caring fabric of Evanston.'
SASI is a nonprofit home care agency that provides assistance to older adults who need help with the activities of daily living, including meal planning and preparation, light housekeeping and laundry, companionship, errands, medication reminders and personal care. SASI caregivers are professionals who undergo the required eight hours of annual training plus up to an additional eight hours of supplemental training to enable them to work with people with Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, or other chronic ailments. SASI engages in significant fundraising throughout the year to keep rates affordable for as many older adults as possible.
Senior Connections, a program of SASI, is a friendly visiting program in Evanston that matches caring volunteers one on one with isolated older adults for the purpose of forming a friendship. Our services are available to all seniors at no cost regardless of background, religion, race, nationality, sexual orientation or income level.
