The Mission of the Museum is to preserve the Frederick County railroad, to educate the public on the history and historic significance of the railroad, and to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for Frederick County's railroad and business history. The Museum intends to stimulate and encourage the collection, preservation, and interpretation of Frederick County history through educational conferences, publications, awards, educational programs, consulting services, and related educational activities. The Museum also intends to help preserve the practices, methods and skills that were necessary to authorize, survey, engineer, locate, construct and maintain railroads over the period of 1865 through 1950 while maintaining and restoring the museum's artifacts, rolling stock and physical assets of the railroad.
