Mission Statement

Horizon International is a non-profit Christian relief and development organization dedicated to creating a world of hope for orphans affected by HIV/AIDS. We serve these orphans and their communities regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender, enabling them to break the cycle of poverty and live free from the bonds of poverty and disease.

Description

The Horizon vision grows out of the Scripture: "For you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. and you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall"(Malachi 4:2,NIV) this is why our logo uses the African symbol of hope - the rising sun - and why we're focused on caring for AIDS orphans and developing leaders. Horizon's first choice for orphan care is a Home-based model in which orphans live with extended family or foster parents. We provide basic needs like food and clothing, an education, basic health care and staff training. We also use the Children's Village model - with a central gathering facility surrounded by homes and a skills school - as well as Children's Homes, both of which operate with a local church partnership. Horizon enables community self-sufficiency. Your $35 per month child sponsorship helps meet basic needs. Additional gifts fund leadership and skills training, higher education, and job creation for sustainable development!

I volunteer by sponsoring a young girl in South Africa through Horizon International. I feel very blessed for this opportunity. She is 15 and I have received a letter from her. She wants to finish school and start her own business. My donation helps with her education. My son is currently volunteering in South Africa with Horizon for a year. He knows who my sponsored child is and sees her in her community. I have been very moved by the stories of the children in this area. I have been told by Dan and all the people from our church that he has traveled with about the needs of these children. We can all give even just a little to help those who can not help themselves. Let's give these children a chance to break free from poverty. Sign up to sponsor a child today! Bless all of volunteers and Bob, the founder of Horizon International for helping the children.....

I have volunteered with Horizon International for the past year and a half. In the beginning I only volunteered by sponsoring a child, but in July of 2008 I went on a mission trip to Limpopo Village South Africa to work with the children in our sponsorship program. To see them was one of the most amazing beautiful God moments I have ever had in my life. God was alive everywhere, I could see Horizon impacting hundreds of lives. To actually be there and witness the awesome things that Horizon International is doing is wonderful. Knowing that they are impacting kids all over Africa is even better. I now volunteer every other week at the home office in Pendleton Indiana, and am planning my second trip to South Africa where I will be able to meet both the children I sponsor. It has been one of the most life changing experiences I have ever had. God Bless Horizon International and all they are doing in all of Africa.

As my relationships grow with Horizon so does my hope for all children of the World. Hope says it best as I experience what Horizon is doing in Africa. When I think of what $35.00 a month can do in a child’s life I get excited to share this opportunity with everyone I know. During my first Horizon trip our family sponsored a girl named Sello and her brother Metome. They lost both of their parents within 2 months of each other. I believe that God chose these children for me and my family to love, respect, encourage, and invest both our time and money. What we have received back is far greater than any amount of money we could have given. The greatest gift of all was to find out that Sello and Metome have a sister named Surprise. Yes, she was a wonderful surprise. I thank Horizon and founder Bob Pearson for extending their friends, co workers, family, and most of all the orphans of Africa. My hope and prayer is you will join our family and add to yours!

Through Horizon International, my family sponsors an AIDS orphan in Zimbabwe. I have met several of Horizon's volunteers and each one of them has a personal desire improve the lives of these children in Africa. They see each child as an individual, not a statistic, and they very sincerely go about their mission of matching each of these kids with a sponsor, one child at a time. They very courageously reach out to areas in Africa that the rest of the world seems to have overlooked. I truly admire their dedication to this cause. From a family perspective, I recommend this organization because you can involve each member of the family in what you are doing. We pray as a family for this child. We send care packages to our child three times a year and my kids get involved in deciding what to send and they write personal letters to the child which helps develop a compassionate heart for people less fortunate than them. The blessing we receive is immeasurable, and the cost is so small.
