Soroptimist is an international volunteer organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. The name Soroptimist means "best for women," and that's what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best working to help other women be their best.
The Glendale club identifies the needs of our community and then establishes projects that best address these specific needs. In addition to our commitment to the Glendale community, we are concerned with affecting change at the national and international levels to improve the quality of life for women and girls. Each year, Soroptimist International of Glendale raises funds, which we then distribute to various charities in Glendale that improve the lives of women, girls, and others in need. We raise the funds through various means, and our major fundraiser is Bras for a Cause for breast cancer.
In addition to our fundraising projects and events, we also host our annual Accolades Program where women are honored in three different categories: The Violet Richardson Award is a f inancial award given to a high school girl who helps to improve conditions in her community through her commitment to volunteering, an additional award is algo given to the charity with which she volunteers. The Women's Opportunity Award is given to a women who is the head-of-household - who is currently pursing higher education. The Making a Difference for Women Award is bestowed upon an woman in the community who, through her professional or personal efforts, makes extraordinary differences in the lives of women or girls. Honorees are women who have worked to improve the lives of other women or girls. Their work has had a significant impact, and also inspires and encourages other women.
