Mission Statement

The mission of the Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial is to make art accessible to everyone, regardless of economic means, background, or artistic experience.

Description

Fleisher Art Memorial was founded in 1898 by industrialist Samuel S. Fleisher, and is the oldest tuition free art school in the country. Sam Fleisher believed that a truly democratic society could be realized when those of differing backgrounds come together to create art. Over one hundred years later, more than 5,000 students attend Fleisher annually to learn and create art in a variety of disciplines, with most classes offered tuition-free. This includes adults and children from the immediate neighborhood as well as the Greater Philadelphia area. Fleisher has also expanded its presence in Philadelphia through its Community Partnerships in the Arts programs, which brings the arts into the communities through after-school and in-school teaching artists residencies. Fleisher Art Memorial is dedicated to fostering quality arts education for everyone in the community. Look for new volunteer opportunities coming up soon at Fleisher!
