Mission Statement

The mission of the March of Dimes is to 'improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature births, and infant mortality' through research, education, advocacy, support and community.

Description

The March of Dimes is the leading non-profit organization for infant health in the country and has been since 1938 when founded by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The March of Dimes was initially founded to find a cure for polio --when this mission was accomplished, the March of Dimes took on the broader issue of infant health.

Today, the March of Dimes is working with volunteers around the globe to have stronger, healthier babies. Research funded by the March of Dimes helped to bring surfactant therapy to pre-term babies, saving lives every day. The public has the opportunity to be educated on pre-conception and inter-conception care to insure mom and baby are both healthy. The March of Dimes took the lead on restoring funding to the Birth Defects Registry in Florida. Babies that are born too small and too soon are supported through March of Dimes' service such as NICU Family Support.
