Mission Statement

The ECAC opened in 2006 as an arts and community center with a mission to empower the human spirit by integrating arts, education and social activities in a community space.

Description

The ECAC opened in 2006 after renovating a historically significant building at 733 Euclid St. NW near Howard University. We partner with direct service providers to bring affordable or free space for activities that promote arts, education and civic engagement and targeted outreach to the 15,000 members of the Lower Georgia Avenue Community. In addition we have been instrumental in effective community organizing in neighborhoods which include LeDroit Park and Shaw. Specifically we have provided:

  • An effective community organizing model (the Georgia Avenue Community Development Task Force) that gives all residents a voice in redevelopment
  • A model for sustainability and environmental stewardship
  • Community-wide recognition of the historic nature of our building and our neighborhood.
