We’re a nonprofit driven to end child slavery in Haiti in our lifetime. This issue of child slavery, called "restavek" in Haitian Creole, is why Haiti is ranked 3rd by the Global Slavery Index. It affects hundreds of thousands of children. Restavek is when a poor family, often in a rural area, unable to care for the child gives up the child to another poor family, often in an urban area, who needs help with housework and chores. The idea is that the child will get an education and a better life. Sadly, far too often the child is overworked, abused, isolated, and treated as property. There is hope. Together, we are transforming lives and empowering a movement to share freedom and end the restavek system.
