Mission Statement

Since its inception, the Belvedere Middle School College Club has proudly served the youth and families of the East Los Angeles community. Our staff remains committed to the Belvedere Middle School and its dedication to the realization and fulfillment of every student's full potential. Belvedere Middle School's College Career Center, which is staffed by AmeriCorps VISTAs, has provided students with information about college life and the admissions process. Encouraging students to strive for higher education is a big part of our mission; to empower students to dream, believe in it and achieve it.

Description

Our existence in the community is vital; we provide educational opportunities as an alternative to gang violence, teen pregnancy, and unemployment. At times the environment surrounding our students does not encourage higher education and high educational standards. These grim statistics are what make the work that we do so necessary and rewarding, because despite the odds against them our students regularly attend the UC and CSU systems, private universities, and community colleges. Though we have achieved some successes, the community we serve is still in need of much more support. Currently, we have a college club in which the students come in after school once a week to learn about careers and colleges as well as being prepared for high school. We are regularly planning college awareness workshops, community events, as well as field trips to college campuses. With your support we will not only be able to continue the efforts that we have started in this community but also increase them!
