Lost Our Home Pet Rescue is always interested in expanding our volunteer community. No matter what skill or expertise you have, all Lost Our Home volunteers share one thing - the desire to make a difference. Volunteers are critical to the success of Lost Our Home. We wouldn't be able to help and care for the many pets and pet parents who come to the shelter without the support of our community. Our many volunteer opportunities include: Animal Socialization & Enrichment: Spend quality one-on-one time with our animals to keep them happy, healthy, and adoptable by socializing with, reading to, exercising, and grooming them. You will get the chance to learn animal behavior and help our animals learn how to behave with potential adopters. Enrichment refers to mental and physical stimulation. Allowing animals to think, learn, and explore goes a long way to keeping them behaviorally healthy in the shelter. Indoor Treadmill Program: Exercise is essential to both the physical health and mental well-being of our shelter dogs. Receive one-on-one training to learn to walk dogs on LOH''s indoor treadmills. Offsite Events: Handle animals and educate the public at a wide variety of outreach events such as school visits, programs, summer camps, group visits, parties, street fairs, festival booths, fundraising events, etc. Animal Care Assistance: Provide dogs and cats with clean, comfortable housing that leads to healthier, happier, and ultimately more adoptable animals. Foster Program: Care for animals that are not yet ready for adoption, including animals too young for adoption, nursing moms, animals needing supportive health care or time to recover after surgery, temporary placements for owners in transition, and pets that need a place to stay if the rescue is full. Fosters must complete the online Foster application and attend Foster Orientation. Administrative/Clerical Support: Duties may include greeting & directing visitors, assisting Adoption Counselors, spot cleaning the public-facing areas of the shelter and clerical duties such as helping with fliers, pamphlets, mailings, paperwork and data entry. Pet-Food Bank Support: Organize the Pet Food Bank supply room shelves and record, inventory and shelve in-kind donations of cat litter, pet food, and more. Marketing & Photography: Are you an amateur photographer? While spending time with our animals, take photos and share them on social media. Assist our marketing department in spreading the word about all of our wonderful adoptable animals and programs. Special Events: Assist with our annual Holiday Champagne Brunch & Auction in December that helps support our programs and services. Volunteer Requirements: You must be 18 years of age or older to volunteer independently in the shelter. Those ages 16-17 are also permitted to volunteer independently in the shelter but may be restricted to certain tasks. Those ages 8-15 are permitted to volunteer in the shelter but must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian at all times and may be restricted to certain tasks. If interested in handling animals, you must be able to donate at least 6 hours per month for at least 6 months. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate short term volunteer opportunities at this time due to the time it takes for training, If you're interested in volunteering with us, please fill out a volunteer application on our website: www.lostourhome.org
