Mission Statement
Our mission is to enhance the lives of economically disadvantaged patients in need of long-term medical care and to support long-term medical care facilities. We are presently focused on improving the lives of residents at Coler-Goldwater Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility (CGSHNF) on Roosevelt Island in New York City.
Description
Our efforts focus both on therapeutic enhancement and improving the overall quality of life of patients at the hospital. Angelica is currently focusing on cultural, educational and social programs at the hospital. These events engage patients' imaginations, expose them to new ideas and stimulate interaction among fellow residents. Our longer term goals include partnering with other organizations to bring more volunteers to the hospital and exploring ways to help patients continue their education beyond the high school level. In the meantime, we seek to enhance patients' daily lives by purchasing clothing and personal items, and birthday and holiday gifts. Another major objective is to help patients achieve a sense of independence and accomplishment. We recently established the Explorer's Club, a joint volunteer and patient group, which relies on patient participation to develop and plan hospital events and activities. While our volunteers are extremely dedicated, we are strong believers in providing patients with opportunities to help themselves and other patients. We have been deeply touched by the overwhelming desire of patients to lead meaningful lives despite their challenges, and what better way to achieve that than to help others?
