Mission Statement

The Drowning Prevention Foundation's missionn is to prevent the tragedy of child drownings and disabilities through the use of public information, education and policy change. DPF is a non-profit, community based organization that is recognized both locally and nationally as the leading expert in drowning prevention methods, technology, policy and activities.

Description

We are a 501 (c)(3) incorporated in the State of California 1985 dedicated to reducing the numbers of child drownings in residential swimming pools, spa's, hottubs, diaper pails, and other bodies of water.Drownings in the 1 to 4 age range is still the number one cause of death and disability in the State of California and ranks second in the nation.

We have succesffully initiated and passed the First Pool Fencing Law in the World in 1984; supported the passing of our States Swimming Pool Safety ACt of 1996 and recently the signing of our Federal Bill which the President signed January 2008.

We develop and distribute educational programs/materials and offer technical assistance as needed to other drowning prevention advocates. We hold an Annual Drowning Prevention Symposium in various states with high incidences of child drownings.
