Mission Statement

The Ebell of Los Angeles is an educational and philanthropic organization founded by women in 1894. The mission is to participate in and encourage the education, cultural and social growth of the diverse Los Angeles community. The Ebell administers a college scholarship program for women and men and a program assisting women in need. The Ebell also maintains and preserves its art collections and its historic Clubhouse and Wilshire Ebell Theatre. "I Will find a Way or Make One--I Serve."

Description

The Ebell of Los Angeles is the oldest women's club in Los Angeles. The Ebell has several philanthropic activities including giving over $300,000 annually in college scholarships to deserving students and giving nearly $200,000 annually to support programs for women in need. The property includes the popular Wilshire Ebell Theater and the Clubhouse which has been designated a national, state, and county historic monument. Members participate in a variety of activities including chorale, theater, gardening, lectures and social events.
