VITAS Bereavement Volunteers contact family and loved ones following the death of a VITAS patient. Volunteers are trained to ask supportive questions and listen. BTAP(Bereavement Telephone Assurance Program) callers make supportive outreach phone calls as a remote Administrative opportunity. Bereavement volunteers provide in-person visits, help with mailings or organize support groups, all with the support and guidance of the VITAS bereavement team. Ideal positions for College students studying the field of healthcare, nursing, social work, bereavement, or pastoral care. Retirees in these fields make outstanding volunteers for these programs.

VITAS is looking for caring individuals to share their listening ear, voice and time as ProActive Caller Volunteers to support terminally ill patients and their families. In this program, the Primary Caregiver receives "check-in" phone calls by trained VITAS Volunteers. These calls provide support, reassurance and ascertain if needs are being met. Excellent opportunity for retirees looking to be engaged with others. VITAS is looking for volunteers in Collier County who would like to share their music or art talents with our patients. Volunteers visit patients in the patient's home or care community where they reside. If you enjoy playing music, singing or have artistic talents such as drawing, painting, or coloring, that can provide calm and comfort to those terminally ill, please reach out to us! You will receive training in hospice philosophy, supporting people at end of life, and understanding the challenges of dementia and Alzheimer's. Visits provide socialization, comfort, joy, and compassionate support. Assignments are made according to the volunteer's time availability and location. Great opportunity for retired individuals and teachers, college students studying music, art, music therapy, and art therapy. If you love music and art, share that love with our patients! VITAS' Memory Bear Volunteers make home-sewn bears with compassion and love to ease a hurting heart after the death of a VITAS patient. The bears are sewn from items of the patient's clothing. A Memory Bear may recall the closeness of a loved one, bring a smile to someone in distress, or offer a sense of security to a child who feels alone after the loss of a grandparent, parent or sibling. The fabric is provided by the family; the pattern, support and stuffing are provided by VITAS and the creativity is provided by the Memory Bear Volunteer. Bears are made in the volunteer's home.
