Mission Statement

To increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.

Description

The South Carolina GEAR UP program is federally funded by the US Department of Education and administered by the SC Commission on Higher Education. For six years, the program will serve selected schools throughout the state offering academic and college awareness enrichment programs focused around the following objectives:

  • to improve SC GEAR UP students' academic performance and preparation for postsecondary education;
  • to improve SC GEAR UP students' rate of high school graduation and participation in postsecondary education;
  • to expand SC GEAR UP students' and their families' knowledge of postsecondary education options, preparation, and financing.
