Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
OUR MISSION is to prevent cruelty to animals by: Helping provide shelter for unwanted animals Developing educational programs for responsible pet ownership Conducting spay and neuter programs Placing adoptable animals in humane environments Advocating for the humane treatment of all animals Supporting animal welfare issues.
Oconee Humane Society has been in existence for 35+ years, and some of the founding volunteers continue to serve as volunteers. We share a building, referred to as the Oconee Animal Shelter with Oconee County Animal Control, however, we are totally separate organizations. Animals enter the shelter through Animal Control, are fully vetted, and are then transferred to OHS's adoption side of the shelter. OHS is in essence a no-kill adoption center. Once a cat or dog is available for adoption, we keep them until a suitable adopter take them home.
We have grown significantly over the years, and we need additional volunteers to help manage that growth. We like to say that there is "something for everyone" in supporting the homeless pets in our care. Some of the roles are:
- Dog and Cat Socialization and Handling
- Community Outreach
- Front Desk coverage
- Offsite adoption events
- Foster care
- Trap/Neuter Release of community cats
- Humane Education
If you would be interested in any of these roles, please see the Volunteer Page on our website: www.oconeehumane.org. You can download a Volunteer Application as well as a Release from Liability Waiver and return them to our volunteer committee by email or US mail. All our volunteer must complete an orientation prior to beginning volunteer service.
We hope you will decide to join our vibrant and dedicated volunteer crew!
