Mission Statement
Founded by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2002, After-School All-Stars, Los Angeles (ASAS-LA) is a leading middle and high school after-school program provider whose programs educate, enlighten and inspire thousands of students each day through after-school activities centered around health, fitness and nutrition; the visual and performing arts; and youth leadership and community service learning.
In partnership with the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles & Montebello Unified School Districts, ASAS-LA brings innovative, cutting-edge enrichment programs to middle and high school youth that contribute to reducing drug use, crime and violence; while increasing the safety of students in the after school hours. The organization serves over 3,000 students at 16 middle and high schools located in at-risk areas throughout LA County.
Description
After-School All-Stars, Los Angeles (ASAS-LA) offers low-income students comprehensive after-school programs that are educating, enlightening, inspiring and fun.
Since its inception, ASAS-LA has launched programs in 16 schools in at-risk communities within LA County and currently serves over 3,000 students.
507,000 service days of after-school programming are provided to its students, with each service day representing three hours that an at-risk youth is safe and occupied productively in the critical hours between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. Most importantly, After-School All-Stars seeks to inspire these youth to envision better futures and truly change their lives.
At each ASAS-LA school site, academic learning support, including homework assistance is provided. After students complete their homework assignments, activities are created incorporating three pillars of program: Visual and Performing Arts; Heath, Nutrition and Physical Fitness; Leadership, Character Development & Community Service Learning.
