Mission Statement

The Maine-Niles Association of Special Recreation is dedicated to improving the quality of life and, through advocacy and awareness, promoting a successful leisure lifestyle for individuals with disabilities.

Description

We are an extension of six member park districts and one Village parks and recreation department in Maine and Niles Townships. These member districts include: Des Plaines Park District, Golf-Maine Park District, Village of Lincolnwood Parks & Recreation, Morton Grove Park District, Niles Park District, Park Ridge Park District and Skokie Park District. M-NASR provides and facilitates year-round recreation programs and services for children and adults with disabilities who live in the member-district communities.

Serve 3,500 registrants annually

Our agency was formed in 1972 as the second "special recreation" association in the state of Illinois and among one of the first of its kind in the country. M-NASR currently serves more than 3,500 registrants each year offering over 200 programs. Participants include adults and children with mental, physical, emotional or other disabilities, visual impairments and behavior disorders. Members of our recreation staff try to meet with clients prior to registering for programs so that their needs can be evaluated and they can register for the most appropriate programs.
