The WVRS provides free emergency and routine ambulance, paramedic, and heavy rescue services in response to 911 calls in designated areas of Montgomery County, Maryland.
The Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad was formed in 1955, and has served the community of Wheaton and surrounding areas of Montgomery County for over 40 years. The Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad is a corps of volunteers who own, maintain and staff a fleet of 2 rescue squads, 3 medic units, 3 ambulances, 3utility vehicles, and associated equipment.
Each member volunteers his or her own time one night a week from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. and one day every third weekend. The station is staffed entirely by volunteers at all times except for weekdays, 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. when staffing is provided by both volunteers and the Montgomery County Department of Fire and Rescue Services. Together, the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad provides service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year at no charge to those served.
The Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad is dependent solely upon donations from the community and fundraisers for financial support. As long as the community provides support, the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad will continue to provide fire, rescue and emergency medical services to all our neighbors and the community free of charge.
