The mission of the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service is education of Indiana residents through the application of land-grant university research and knowledge base to develop youth and strengthen agriculture, families and communities.
The function of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service is in non-formal education directed toward helping people solve their problems. As part of Purdue University and the USDA, as specified by the Smith Lever Act and the 1963 Indiana State Law, the Cooperative Extension Service is responsible to all of the people of Indiana. Through educational processes, Extension provides scientific and technical knowledge directly to individuals who are concerned about problems of production, management and marketing, strengthening family life, youth development, community resource development and public policies. Ultimate decision and action taken in resolution of any specific problem, private or public, is left to the people affected.
