Mission Statement

St. James’ Church takes seriously our Biblical mandate for hospitality, operating a 12-bed shelter for homeless men in partnership with Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church. The shelter is staffed entirely by volunteer hosts, who provide a light meal and a safe and comfortable sleeping environment for our guests seven nights each week.

We are a 12-bed shelter for single, homeless men. The shelter is a joint operation of Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church and St. James' Church.

The shelter is staffed entirely by volunteer hosts, who provide a light meal and a safe and comfortable sleeping environment for our guests seven nights each week.The shelter space is located inside of Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church on the corner of 73rd street and Madison Avenue.

There are two shifts: an early host (6:30pm-8:30pm) and an overnight host (8:30pm-7am)

It was great to engage with a screened group of men with positive attitudes. Offering hospitality was rewarding. I as the Host, had my own room to sleep in that I found very comfortable. Serving a quick breakfast and some hot coffee was well appreciated by the men.
