Mission Statement

Handheld Stories provides communities confronting critical social issues the tools to digitally document their experiences in unique narratives and promote them online. From helping participants to understand their unique circumstances as vital and important stories, to editing the final short film on a laptop or tablet, Handheld Stories helps an authentic voice emerge that’s empowered to address these issues in new and profound ways. Our Vision We envision a world where all people, regardless of their economic or social standing, have the right, the means, and access to participate in the global conversation. Handheld Stories will be known for contributing to a world where all people have the opportunity to share their stories as informed global citizens, where no one remains underrepresented and where the right to free speech also encompasses the right to be heard.

Description

Handheld Stories is a small, volunteer-based non-profit based in Delray Beach, Florida. We have provided workshops to kids and young adults in impoverished communities worldwide. Past projects have taken us to Egypt, India, Nepal, Ethiopia and Palestine. Currently we are organizing a project with the Lakota Nation in South Dakota.

We need volunteers in every area, especially locally for logistics, event planning and administrative assistance. In addition, we are seeking grant writers, fundraising enthusiasts and workshop volunteers. Time commitment is flexible and any level of experience is welcome provided you have a willingness to learn and a genuine interest in the area in which you work.
