Mission Statement
TSA's Canine Breeding and Development program selectively breeds, raises, and prepares puppies to be future explosives-detection dogs within the National Explosives Detection Canine Team Program. Dogs who graduate from training are assigned to airports and mass transit systems nationwide. The program is located at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
Description
The TSA's Canine Breeding and Development Program uses volunteers in the San Antonio and Austin, Texas communities to raise puppies. Volunteers care for these puppies in their homes from ten weeks to twelve months of age. The program supplies all needed supplies, food, and veterinary care needed to raise the puppy. The primary need is for volunteers to socialize puppies and to condition them to the types of environments the dogs will be working in as adults.
