Mission Statement

1. To provide law students a rigorous and well-supervised educational experience designed to promote the development of essential advocacy skills and understanding of the ethical responsibilities of lawyers. 2. To provide high quality legal representation, assistance, and counseling to low-income persons requiring legal assistance in the District of Columbia. 3. To further the administration of justice in the local courts and agencies of the District of Columbia by providing legal representation and counseling to persons otherwise without legal counsel and by providing mediation and conciliation services to resolve cases. 4. To assist the legal profession by participating in educational and mentoring programs, by providing legal assistance and advice to lawyers, and by referring clients and matters to appropriate legal counsel.

Description

D.C. Law Students in Court provides free, high quality legal assistance to low-income Washington, D.C. residents who are unable to afford a lawyer, trains third-year law students in lawyering and courtroom advocacy skills, helps the courts with the administration of cases by providing assistance and representation to indigent persons, assists the legal profession by participating in educational and mentoring programs by providing legal assistance and advice to lawyers, and by referring clients and matters to appropriate legal counsel.
