Mission Statement

The Women in Science concept is somewhat unusual within Wyoming. Not only is the population male-dominated, but so are the career choices. The Riverton, Wyoming area is predominately surrounded by the Wind River Indian Reservation, an area that has been plagued by poverty and lack of opportunity. The unique aspect of this conference is the opportunity for students to attend interactive, dynamic workshops. Participants are able to tour college laboratories and communicate with professors and researchers in various fields of study. Note that some of the past participants have commented that they have ?never even been on a college campus before!? They engage in break-out sessions of their choosing with professional women providing them the opportunity to meet and personally interact with panelists in an open environment, creating fun and exciting ways to learn about challenging careers in science, mathematics, and/or technical related occupations. Communities in Wyoming will also benefit from a more diverse and educated workforce because of the exposure these girls and young women have had to these fields. Our mission is to provide an avenue for girls and young women to learn about the various careers available to them though interactive, dynamic conferences which are designed to show then that they have the opportunity and capability to achieve success in any scientific, mathematical, or technological field they choose.
