Mission Statement
The Future City Competition program, part of the National Engineers Week Foundation, partners engineers with 7th and 8th grade students to solve a stimulating engineering challenge with a hands-on application which presents their vision of a city of the future. The Future City Competition program is aligned with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiatives and employs an integrated curriculum approach. While providing students with real-world engineering applications and integration of technology, the multi-disciplinary program also enhances the development of life skills, such as problem-based learning and team building, both of which are critical skills needed in today's work force. Currently, competitions are held in 40 regions around the country with one winner from each region participating in the national competition finals in Washington, DC each February. The program now includes over 30,000 students and 7,500 volunteers from across the United States.
