AshaKiran is committed to educate, empathize and empower persons of South Asian and other foreign-born origins while providing culturally sensitive and confidential services to people experiencing traumatic/stressful situations.
Established in 2006 and headquartered in Huntsville, AL, AshaKiran, which translates to "a ray of hope," is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to serving individuals of South Asian and other foreign origins dealing with crises, such as domestic violence and sexual assault, by providing specific culturally sensitive services within our emergency shelter, our 24 HR Crisis AshaLine "Hope-Line" as well as our training workshops and presentations for other shelters and first responders throughout Alabama.
AshaKiran volunteers come from many countries and backgrounds, catering to more than 36+ languages and 100 dialects to overcome additional barriers individuals with foreign origins are faced with such as cultural, religious and language stigmas.
