Mission Statement

Amigos de las Americas Washington DC is the Washington, DC Chapter of Amigos de las Americas, an international, voluntary, nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization that, through service:- Provides leadership development opportunities for young people; - Promotes community health in Latin America; and - Facilitates cross-cultural understanding for the people of the Americas. Amigos de las Americas of Washington DC recruits high school students from the Washington metropolitan area to participate in a six month leadership training programs followed by six and eight-week community health projects in Latin America.

Description

Amigos volunteers work during the summer in communities, schools and health clinics in eight Latin American countries where they are invited to provide public health and environmental education activities. For over 30 years, the AMIGOS mission to provide leadership development opportunities for young people, promote community health for the people of Latin America, and encourage cross-cultural understanding among the peoples of the Americas, has challenged its teen volunteers to appreciate the world from a cultural and economic perspective profoundly different than their own.

I would recommend this organization because I feel that it gets across a very important issue, which is the development of Latin American. Being able to join this organization would be an honor and I would love to represent Latin America
