Marian Middle School, a Catholic school serving adolescent girls of all religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by fostering their spiritual, academic, social, moral, emotional, and physical development in preparation for and successful completion of college preparatory high schools.
Coming from a low-income family and being a member of a racial or ethnic minority group are demographic indicators of students at risk of dropping out of school. However, when quality education is combined with college readiness resources, low-income students have a greater chance of graduating from high school, going to college, and become successful contributors to society. Marian Middle School provides low-income students with a quality education and college readiness resources through its innovative educational model that incorporates three interrelated programs. Marian Middle School’s Academic Program, the central component of the school’s alternative, three-part program, prepares middle school students to succeed in high-performing high schools. The school’s Enrichment Program provides leadership experiences and character development by affording low-income students opportunities that are otherwise unavailable to them. The Graduate Support Program, the final component of Marian Middle School’s educational program, offers academic, social, and financial support to alumnae in high school and college. Combined, these programs provide a recipe for academic success.
