The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is the public health and environmental protection agency for the state and carries out its duties pursuant to numerous statutes including, but not limited to the: Emergency Health Powers Act, Pollution Control Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Hazardous Waste Management Act, Solid Waste Policy and Management Act, Coastal Tidelands and Wetlands Act, Beachfront Management Act, Contagious and Infectious Diseases Act, State Certification of Need and Health Facility Licensure Act and Vital Statistics Act.
