Mission Statement

The mission of CASA of the Alapaha Judicial Circuit ( Court Appointed Special Advocates) is to speak for the best interest of abused/neglected children in the juvenile courts of the Alapaha Judicial Circuit through screened, trained and supervised volunteer advocates.

Description

Although this is a volunteer opportunity the reward of working with these children makes it all worth it. Many of these children do not fully understand what it is like to have someone that has their best intrests at heart and to put their needs first. Due to the fact that our volunteers do work with children volunteers must complete a screening process while recieving their training. They also must attend courtroom sessions in order to gain experience regarding experience. In regards to the tasks that are performed by a CASA volunteer we meet with the children once a month and develop a relationship with the children in order to fully understand what they want after a situation regarding forms of abuse and neglect. We also meet with those directly involved with the child including Child Protective Services in order to gain a bigger understanding of the situation. Another factor is we make recommendations to a judge in association with the child's safety, placement, and resouces so the child can be in an evironment that allows them to feel safe and happy. We have trainings on a regular basis and if you are interested and share the same passion as we do for children we would absolutely love to have you.
