Mission Statement
Eliminating a primary cause of prison recidivism by providing young inmates with on-site, market-wage jobs through the processing, refurbishing, and re-selling of corporate and government e-waste
Description
Merit Partners is a operationally self-sustaining nonprofit with a mission to reduce prison recidivism in the United States. Our organization employs incarcerated youth with market wage jobs in e-waste recycling and reselling. While in our program, our employees not only save money for their release, but learn transferrable jobs skills, contribute to victim restitution, pay taxes and room and board, and practice conceptualizing a life outside of crime.
Merit Partners received California Attorney General, Kamala Harris' "Smart on Crime" award in July 2015 and is to date the only e-waste recyclers employing prisoners to acheive an e-Stewards certifications.
