Mission Statement

The mission of The Ecumenical Assembly - Love Chapel is as follows:

To provide programs for a Christian response to community social needs; To provide safety net programs of social action as a means of responding to the spiritual needs of people in the community and of responding to physical needs of people, including but not limited to, emergency needs and food, medical, and shelter needs; To provide a basis and a means for cooperative effort among Churches of Christ of Bartholomew County in an answer to an earnest desire that, in God's Providence, all persons may manifest oneness in Jesus Christ as divine Lord and Savior; To cooperate and participate with other organizations in programs to carry out the above listed purposes of the Corporation; and

In general, to perform all lawful acts which may be conducted under the Act solely in order to promote or to carry out the above listed purposes of the Corporation.

Description

Listed below are the primary areas of need that we provide in Bartholomew County:

Emergency Food and Toiletries Need based qualifications. We may request that they apply for food stamps if eligible. Food is available every 30 days. Bread and fresh produce are available at any time provided the supply is available. Diapers and basic toiletry items are available every 30 days. Gleaners Mobile Food Pantry - eligible to residence of Bartholomew County Emergency Financial AidRent, Rent Deposits, Utilities, Utility Deposit, and other items as needed and based on the circumstances. Client must seek assistance from the Trustee / other sources when eligible before seeking assistance from Love Chapel. Amount may vary depending on the need and circumstances. All assistance checks are mailed to the vendor/landlord - not given to the client. Assistance is not provided for phone service unless there is a medical need prescribed by a doctor. The majority of the information is crosschecked with other agencies and providers. Prescription AssistanceWe refer all prescription assistance to the Medication Assistance Program at Aging and Community Services (we support this program financially through funds for the Prescriptions). Exceptions are medication to treat Lice from the Health Department. Referrals/Other Referrals to the appropriate organization are given whenever possible. Follow-up is provided on a limited basis as volunteers and staff are available. Vouchers for shelter from Love Chapel are provided through Horizon House (They screen and require those needing shelter to have a police check - their services are open 24 hours a day). Call 376-9710 for assistance. In the rare event that no one at that number can be reached the after hours Love Chapel Cell Number can be called (343-4032) Transportation to Indianapolis may be provided for transients (people who are not residence of Bartholomew County) to overnight shelters. Screening for this transportation can be done through Horizon House. Volunteers at Love Chapel provide help at a Job Referral Center in the waiting room. Love Chapel will work with Homeless Individuals/Families on a case-by-case basis through referrals provided by Horizon House by our Homeless Case Manager. Prayer Ministry Individuals may request to have a concern placed on a prayer chain. Their concern is placed on a list given to a church or group that will pray for them. Follow-up may occur by way of note or phone call to see if there are additional concerns by the individual. Other Depending on the need we may be able to help with the referral from a caseworker or another helping agency.
