Mission Statement

Public gardens have a powerful and positive impact on the health, environment and economy of a region. They make it a better place to live. The Mission of The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park is to design, build and manage a year-round botanical garden in Northwest Michigan for the purposes of botanical and environmental preservation, education and research, and the enjoyment and renewal of citizens and visitors.

Description

Located in the heart of Traverse City on the beautiful grounds of Historic Barns Park, The Botanic Garden is a year-round sanctuary of environmental preservation, recreation and education. Its 26 acres nurture the soul, enliven our history and promote Michigan’s natural beauty. With an emphasis on plant species native to northwest Michigan, it creates and enhances habitats for various forms of wildlife. As a place of renewal and reflection, The Botanic Garden’s unique and original design informs and inspires. Buildings from the 1800s have been renovated to establish a visitor center, an open-air pavilion, and a walled garden. Gardens and a labyrinth that showcase native perennials are open for the public to enjoy, and future developments will include healing gardens, edible gardens, a children’s garden, and others. The Botanic Garden offers an ever-expanding menu of educational and recreational activities, all of which are listed at http://www.thebotanicgarden.org and at http://www.facebook.com/BotanicGardenTC.
