Mission Statement
Seattle Parks and Recreation's MissionSeattle Parks and Recreation will work with all citizens to be good stewards of our environment, and to provide safe and welcoming opportunities to play, learn, contemplate, and build community.
Description
Keep our neighborhoods safeWe place a high priority on serving youth and teens, and never more so than now, when life is more complicated and temptations loom when kids are not in school. We are the lead public agency providing safe, fun programs for Seattle youth between the ages of 11 and 21, and we serve an average of 2,100 youth every week.
Build strong families and healthy communitiesAt Parks, families and community are what we're all about. Thanks to the generosity and confidence of Seattle voters, the 1999 Community Centers Levy and the 2000 Pro Parks Levy are bringing us nine new or expanded community centers, more than 100 projects to acquire new park land and develop or improve playgrounds, boulevards, creeks, teen centers, off-leash areas, neighborhood parks, ballfields, trails, gardens, tennis courts, wildlife habitat, and other amenities. Look for the park improvements in your neighborhood at http://www.seattle.gov/parks/centers/comcenlevyprog99.htm and http://www.seattle.gov/parks/proparks/
