Mission Statement

Nittany Beagle Rescue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the lives of beagles in central Pennsylvania. We accept beagles from shelters and from owners who can no longer keep them, and we work to find them loving, permanent homes.

Description

How is it that beagles can become homeless and make their way to rescue groups like Nittany Beagle Rescue? Some are strays whose owners cannot be found. Others are surrendered by their owners. Reasons why people give up their beagles include:

  • Loss or lack of commitment to the beagle
  • Arrival of a baby
  • Development of an allergy in the family
  • Illness or death of an owner
  • A move to a "no dogs permitted" home
  • Economic hardship
  • Lack of time to care for the beagle
  • Changes in job or family commitments
  • Divorce
  • Beagle becomes ineffective in hunting
  • Inability to properly care for the beagle
