Mission Statement

Our vision is "a world without sickle cell disease." Our mission is: · To support sickle cell awareness and education aimed at the prevention of sickle cell disease, · To support efforts at early detection and research focused on effective treatment modalities, · To promote the discovery of a life-saving cure, and, · To bring hope to families affected by this devastating disease

Description

Our organization is dedicated to raising awareness about sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait, which affect over 2.5 million Americans and millions more around the world. Sickle cell disease is the most common genetic disorder in the United States. The disease, which disproportionately affects African Americans and Hispanics, is characterized by excruciating pain episodes, strokes, organ damage and early death in both the children and adults affected. We support established programs that provide care, treatment and support for sickle cell patients and their families - many of whom may not have access to adequate care. We also work to increase the visibility of National Sickle Cell Awareness Month (September).
