Mission Statement

Sea-Legs promises adventure and teaches young people key life skills. On-the-water and on-shore, maritime activities provide real-life situations that help our young sailors and workshop apprentices learn the importance of teamwork, build self-esteem and discover their own strength in the face of adversity.

Description

Sea-Legs is a grassroots youth program in New London, CT. Our captain (and often one-man-show) Dick Lathrop has used sailing to provide wider horizons for more than 1,000 underprivileged young people in southeastern Connecticut. As a retired sailing coach, math and science teacher, and college professor, Dick founded the organization to offer supplementary education and experience to underprivileged youth.
