Mission Statement

The mission of Tenderloin Health is to optimize the health of the Tenderloin's most homeless, poor and most vulnerable residents. We serve those living with and at the greatest risk of acquiring HIV/AIDS, who have difficulty obtaining services elsewhere, especially due to substance use, mental illness, sexual orientation, gender identity, race and ethnicity, and/or other social barriers.

Tenderloin Health is a new agency formed in July, 2006 as a result of the merger between Continuum and the Tenderloin AIDS Resource Center. Both organizations served the homeless and poor who have or who are at high risk for acquiring HIV/AIDS.

Tenderloin Health is a non-profit community-based organization that respects and meets the needs of the most vulnerable residents of our community. We provide a continuum of services that includes non-judgmental outreach, health education, HIV testing and counseling, linkage to resources, client advocacy, case management, medical, dental, and mental health care. Other practical direct services that we offer include a community drop-in resource center, emergency shelter reservations, housing programs for ex-offenders and for people living with HIV/AIDS, and a vocational program.

Unfortunately, Tenderloin Health is no longer able to service its community, but my time there was immensely meaningful and enabled me to connect with clients on a personal level; my passion for harm reduction approaches was largely fueled by my time at Tenderloin Health.
