SHALOM 2 YOU, INC is unique in that it is the only over 50+ health education and prevention social service grassroots organization of women, by women and for women in the five (5) boroughs. It is a community of "Elders" - African American women 50+ mobilizing with passionate determination to get women talking about sex. Unfortunately, sex has been and continues to be a taboo subject in the senior community. The over 50 age group ahs specific issues that are relevant to this population that are not limited to HIV. Education and prevention are most imperative. We must use any means necessary to get women talking.

SHALOM 2 YOU provides customer service to the whole person by treating them as an individual, not a number, outcome measurement or statistic. Our objective seeks to deepen its impact by expanding the services we provide in an atmosphere that allows our clients to feel safe and comfortable. High blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, breast cancer, obesity and tobacco use are also detrimental to the life force of the community. Another significant aspect of the program is our holistic approach used in combination with convention medication, so that one can have the healthiest life possible. To combat high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and stroke SHALOM 2 YOU will offer a nutritional component - the goal is to teach women to shop, prepare and eat healthy nutritional meals. In regard to breast cancer, early detection is the best defense. We will teach women to self exam their breasts & will offer free mammograms to women that have no medical insurance. We are our sister's keeper. Once armed with the knowledge about HIV/AIDS the women of Bedford Stuyvesant and Crown Heights will in turn to be able to inform the women of other community districts about the topic of HIV/AIDS, thereby enabling those women to have the healthiest life possible.
