Mission Statement

TO HELP HEAL THE EMOTIONAL WOUNDS OF MILITARY VETERANS BY USING THE POWER OF THE HUMAN-ANIMAL BOND TO PROVIDE A SECOND CHANCE FOR SHELTER ANIMALS BY RESCUING, TRAINING AND PAIRING THEM WITH AMERICA’S SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN WHO COULD BENEFIT FROM HAVING A COMPANION ANIMAL

Description

Pets for Vets is an Animal Assisted Intervention that meticulously and thoughtfully creates long term human-animal bonds with companion animals producing a more holistic approach to address the multi-dimensional disorder, PTSD, providing an alternative treatment regimen in combination with traditional therapies in order to increase quality of life for both the veteran and the rescue animal.
Our goal is to help heal the emotional wounds of military veterans by pairing each one with a shelter animal that is specifically selected to match the veteran’s personality. Experienced animal trainers rehabilitate the animals, which may otherwise face euthanasia, and teach them good manners to fit into the veteran’s lifestyle. Training can also include desensitization to wheel chairs or crutches as well as recognizing panic or anxiety disorder behaviors.
Pets for Vets provides a second chance for both our returning veterans and needy shelter animals. These animals can make excellent companions but might not have that chance and our brave soldiers receive a second chance at health and happiness. The bonds of friendship formed between man and animal have the power to ease the suffering of our troops when they return from overseas.
