Mission Statement

Do you have a passion for working with youth? Can you contribute a minimum of one hour a week? If you are looking for a rewarding volunteer experience you can make a difference by becoming a Center for Academic Re-entry program mentor/tutor today!

On February 19, 2008, in response to the increasingly high levels of truancy and dropout rates that plague our community, we launched the CARE program, the aim of which is to provide a module of support mechanisms that help re-engage, re-motivate, and re-orient truant youth toward the goal of high school graduation. Our sincere hope is that our efforts will stimulate the community and the local school system to reinvest in our youth's future. The Bayview Hunters Point Community is taking a stand that says, "NO to Truancy and Yes to Education." We realize that education is the key to a successful future.

Description

Because we recognize that many of the youth we serve have different learning styles, it is our goal to engage them "where they are" (academically) and offer guidance within a safe, healthy, and holistic learning environment. Our Center engages youth in activities that help them discover their talents and dreams, while developing academic and job-specific skills. CARE attracts youth because we provide opportunities for them to participate in growth-oriented activities that are important to them. Once they find out that they like to learn, we help them set goals and achieve them. Our innovative practices and highly talented staff combine to help improve literacy, technical skills, and practical habits that youth need to become successful.
