Mission Statement

The Mission of the Santa Barbara Airport is to provide the region with safe, modern, convenient facilities to access the national air transportation system.

Description

The Santa Barbara Airport is the busiest commercial service airport on the California coast between San Jose and Los Angeles, and has been owned and operated by the City of Santa Barbara since 1941.

The Airport is composed of 950 acres: 400 acres are wetlands (Goleta Slough Ecological Reserve) and 95 acres have been established as the Airport's commercial/industrial area. The Airport is located approximately 10 miles from downtown Santa Barbara and neighbors the City of Goleta and the University of California. The primary market area for the Airport encompasses Santa Barbara County.

The Airport is beginning construction of a new Airline Terminal, adjacent to the present Terminal at 500 Fowler Road in the fall of 2008. Construction is anticipated to be complete in 2011.

The Airport is self-supporting and receives no local tax dollars. Revenue is generated from tenant rents and user fees. The Federal Aviation Administration provides grant funding for capital improvements.

Everybody at the Airport administration is so friendly and I think it's going to be a fun way to help out the community and get to be around aviation.
