Mission Statement

To provide educational experiences in the art of Sled Dog Racing to enthusiasts and students of all ages, demonstrate proper care for our environment while promoting positive economic influence within our region.

Description

The Eagle Cap Extreme provides a Premier Sled Dog Race in Wallowa county, Oregon each Jan. Our Jan 15 - 17 2009 Race will be the 5th in a series of 100 and 200 mile Sled Dog Race events. Our 200 mile event is a Qualifying Race for the Yukon Quest and Iditarod Sled Dog Races.

Our tentative Jan 2009 Start will be at Wallowa Lake State Park in Joseph, Oregon then proceed through the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest to Checkpoint Salt Creek Summit, then on to Checkpoint Ollokot. There is ample public viewing at Salt Creek Summit. After the proper Vet care and feeding of the Sled Dog Sled Team at Ollokot, the 100 mile Mushers return to Wallowa Lake for their finish. The 200 mile event Mushers will head towards Checkpoint Safety near Duck Lake at the 7000ft elevation. From there the Mushing Team will desend towards Checkpoint Halfway in Halfway, Oregon. Here the 200 mile teams take a manadatory rest while Vets check all Sled Dogs and provide care. There is ample Public viewing at this Checkpoint. The 200 mile Mushers depart Checkpoint Halfway and ascend past historic Cornucopia Lodge and Mine towards Checkpoint Safety then on to Checkpoint Ollokot. Mushing teams are provided Vet care as required then back on the trail to Checkpoint Salt Creek Summit and then the final run to the finish tenatively at Wallowa Lake State Park.

The race requires 100+ volunteers for all job descriptions. Job descriptions and Volunter Applications available at www.eaglecapextreme.com .

The Race runs through an Oregon State Park, A National Forest and privately held properties. All permits are renewed on an annual basis.
