Mission Statement

The Long Branch Athletic Association creates constructive out-of-school activities for the youth of east Silver Spring through organized team sports. We empower children and youth to build self-confidence, leadership, teamwork and social skills, which positively impacts their academic performances and their community involvement.

Description

Long Branch Athletic Association, first identified as a community need by the Long Branch Task Force, provides athletic opportunities for the youth of Long Branch. The youth of Long Branch, particularly in elementary and middle school, often times lack parental supervision, constructive out-of-school activities, and opportunities to build self-confidence and social skills. LBAA helps meet these needs.

Current recreations sports programs have not worked because many youth in the Long Branch community have monetary and transportation barriers. Additionally, the community capacity to organize and fund athletic programming is severely limited. By providing free or minimal cost services and locating the programs in the community, more youth will have access to organized sports.
