LifeSTEPS, Life Skills Training and Educational Programs, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization. By partnering with property owners and developers, LifeSTEPS provides high quality supportive services to residents of affordable housing. As of 2007, LifeSTEPS serves over 80 senior and multifamily affordable housing complexes throughout California, with an additional presence in Washington state. Who are We? LifeSTEPS is proud of our dedicated, professional staff. Our leaders and field staff have extensive training and experience in social work, gerontology, psychology, and family services. Our caring, diverse staff share a commitment to providing effective programs that help individuals grow and communities prosper. Our clients are primarily low wage earners performing vital jobs in our communities. They also include retired seniors, disabled adults, and children, all living on limited incomes. Many of LifeSTEPS' clients have few resources and fewer options. The services provided by LifeSTEPS help our clients maintain stable housing. Even more, we teach skills that allow people struggling with real-life problems find the confidence to succeed. How do we Serve? LifeSTEPS is privileged to touch the lives of more than 20,000 California residents each day. We have developed a unique and powerful service model to provide a continuity of care to our clients. LifeSTEPS programs meet all federal and state social service requirements. We strive to build programs that positively impact people and communities. Through case management, education, and resource networking, LifeSTEPS fosters community health and growth. There is a difference at properties served by LifeSTEPS: residents grow to know and support each other, children have a safe place to go after school, and clubhouses are a vibrant hub of community activity. Founding Philosophy LifeSTEPS was founded in 1996 by two nonprofits, Riverside Charitable Corporation and Community Housing Assistance Program. The STEP in LifeSTEPS stands for 'Skills Training and Educational Programs' and is the heart of our mission. We believe community development is built 'One STEP at a time.' Our founders believe that building affordable housing is only the first step. It is also essential to provide meaningful programs that empower people to move forward in their lives.
