Mission Statement
"A's & Aces is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to provide academic assistance, life skills, and tennis instruction to New Orleans public school children in a safe and secure environment. The objective is to offer services to underserved children who are in need of quality assistance that will promote opportunities for their success."
Academic Assistance + Life Skills + Tennis = A's & AcesThe name "A's & Aces" was chosen to demonstrate a commitment to excellence, both in the classrooms and on the tennis courts. Our goals include: increasing scholastic performance by providing academic support and tutoring; teaching tennis and dedication to a disciplined practice schedule; and, providing life skills and the opportunity for our city's youth to pursue tennis as a life-long healthy and social activity.
Description
A's & Aces teaches life skills through tennis and promotes the concept of "students-athletes" by providing academic support.
A's & Aces is a Community Tennis Association member organization of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and was selected as a project of the Clinton Global Initiative, President Clinton's project "to help turn good intentions into real action and results."A's & Aces provides in-school/after-school, weekend, and summer opportunities. The summer camps teach tennis fundamentals, introduce life skills activities, and create an engaging atmosphere. In-school/after-school clinics are offered to partner elementary schools and provide academic support, tutoring, and further basic tennis instruction with beginner level competition. As funding is secured, a few children who have interest, talent and parental commitment, will be offered scholarships to participate in "Academy Tennis" programming, with a goal of obtaining collegiate tennis scholarships.
In the fall of 2008, in-school/after-school programming will take place on elementary school playgrounds using USTA QuickStart tennis with mini-courts temporarily laid out on school yards or indoors.
