Mission Statement

Save Giovanni's Friends, Inc. was founded on a set of principles which value the triumph of human compassion and public support and involvement over the hardship of illnesses, particularly with respect to those illnesses, conditions, diseases, infections and syndromes relieved by bone marrow transplantation wth a properly matched donor.

The principal purpose for which this Corporation was formed is the promotion of the purposes and objectives of helping to organize and raise funds for bone marrow drives in the United States and internationally, creating and maintaining a bone marrow registry, raising bone marrow transplant awareness, establishing and carrying out educational initiatives regarding bone marrow transplants and awareness about the diseases and conditions treated with the assistance of bone marrow transplants, promoting bone marrow donation, bone marrow matching and registry, and other issues involving bone marrow transplants, their uses and processes, and participating in activities that facilitate the achievement of such purpose.

Description

Save Giovanni's Friends, Inc. was formed in January of 2007 by Michael Guglielmo and Christina Poulicakos when their son, Giovanni, was in need of a bone marrow transplant to live due to a rare genetic defect confirmed in only 62 children worldwide. Giovanni did receive a cord blood match that saved his life. Giovanni is doing well, however there are many other children and adults that will die if they do not find their own match.

Giovanni has inspired over 16,000 people to join the bone marrow registries and has located 12 matches to others who would have died. Save Giovanni's Friends, Inc. continues to do bone marrow drives to save others searching for their life saving match.

Michael and Christina are very dedicated to the cause of registering tens of thousands of people as bone marrow donors. I was blessed to work with this group and, in fact, became a donor through them. It is heartening to see that they continue the effort even now that their son, Giovanni, is doing well.
