Mission Statement

The mission of the Jefferson Awards' Youth Service Initiative is to double volunteering in American high schools and teach leadership and ethical decision-making to the students to retain and expand upon America's greatest tradition and highest calling - public and community service. Jefferson Awards for Public Service was established in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft, Jr., and Sam Beard to create a Nobel Prize for community and public service. We invite you to visit our web site -- www.jeffersonawards.org -- and learn about the Jefferson Awards and the Youth Service Initiative.

Description

Leadership Coaches Wanted: The Jefferson Awards for Public Service is seeking professionals to serve as volunteer coaches for its Youth Services Initiative (YSI) in Chicago high schools. YSI is a recognition and rewards program designed to train students as leaders and ethical decision-makers and to double community service volunteering in high schools. Coaches would work with 2-4 high school students at a high school. Coaches would devout 35 to 40 hours during the course of the school year and make 8 visits to the school.

We will be holding a coach training session in the loop on August 27, 2008 from 5 to 7 p.m. Your will take enormous pride and satisfaction knowing that you are making a positive difference and training our country's future leaders. If you are interested in being a coach, please contact Charlene at shery73@aol.com
