Mission Statement

NAMI Dubuque is the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, a non-profit, tax-exempt grassroots organization advocating for all who are affected by mental illness. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, and research and is steadfast in its commitment to educate, support, and raise awareness in building a community of hope for those affected by mental illness and their families. NAMI stands firm in its conviction that mental illness should not be an obstacle to a full and meaningful life for persons with mental illness.

Description

  • SUPPORT

NAMI provides a support group for families/caregivers of loved ones with mental illness as well as a support group for those individuals diagnosed with mental ilness.

  • EDUCATION

The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program is a free 11-week course for family caregivers of individuals with severe brain disorders.

Peer-to-Peer is a free and consists of 9-week course taught by peers" who are personally experienced at living well with mental illness.

NAMI Basics is a 6-session program designed for parents and other family caregivers of children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral difficulties prior to age 13.

  • ADVOCACY

NAMI works to achieve equitable services and treatment, to combat stigma, and to advocate for adequate health insurance, housing, rehabilitation, and jobs for people with mental illnesses.
